Budget Proposals for the North East Mayoral Combined Authority
In December 2022 the government announced a devolution deal with NECA, NTCA and the seven constituent councils to form a new North East Mayoral Combined Authority.
Subject to parliamentary approval, which is expected in early 2024, an election will take place on May 2 next year and the new authority will form on May 7. You can find about more about this work on the North East Devolution website.
NECA will end as an organisation on May 6 alongside the the North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA), which covers Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside.
A draft budget for the new authority has been prepared, with investment plans designed for delivery of the portfolio activity being developed.
Click here to read the paper that introduces the draft budget (Item 13) and the supporting interim corporate plan (Appendix 1). This was discussed at NECA Leadership Board on November 28th 2023.
We are consulting on the proposals from Friday 30 November to 12 January 2024. If you have any comments or questions about the proposals, please let us know. You can email us on email@example.com.
We will anonymise and publish your comments, and where possible answer your questions, on this page. We will also inform both Cabinet and Overview and Scrutiny of your views, ahead of Cabinet setting next year’s budget in the new year.
