Nick Forbes
A councillor since 2000, Nick was elected Leader of Newcastle City Council in 2011. As well as chairing the Council’s Cabinet, he represents the city on a range of bodies and is Vice Chair of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Authority. A member of Labour’s National Policy Forum, Nick chairs FRESH, the campaign for a Smoke Free North East. He is also Vice Chair of the Core Cities Cabinet and leads for Labour Local Government nationally on Children and Young People issues. Nick trained in the NHS and is Chief Executive of Involve NE, a regional charity established to give a voice to communities in health and care service planning and delivery.

Iain Malcolm
Councillor Iain Malcolm, Leader of South Tyneside Council and Chair of the North East Combined Authority.
Iain Malcolm has served as Leader of South Tyneside Council since 2008 and has been an Elected Member since 1988.
Iain sits on a number of regional committees and chairs several boards including South Tyneside Health and Wellbeing Board. Iain also chairs Newcastle Airport Local Authority Holding Company Limited and serves as a Non-Executive Director and South Tyneside Foundation Trust.
Previously, Iain was Chief of Staff to the Leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party. In 2001, he was appointed Deputy Chair of Sovereign Strategy, which offers a range of consultancy services.

Graeme Miller
Cllr Miller was appointed Leader of the Council in May 2018. He was first elected to the council in 2006 to represent Washington South ward where he is also school governor.
Before becoming Leader, Cllr Miller was the Cabinet’s portfolio holder for Health, Housing and Adult Services. Cllr Miller is particularly passionate about mental health as the basis for good overall health and wellbeing and he is a Health and Mental Health Champion for the city. He is a member of City Hospitals Sunderland Foundation Trust’s Council of Governors and Chair of Age UK Sunderland. He also represents the council and city on a number of bodies and organisations including the North East Combined Authority Leadership Board and North East Local Enterprise Partnership.
As Leader, Cllr Miller’s focus is continuing to work in partnership on the city’s economic regeneration, building on progress in relation to housing and infrastructure development and skills and employment opportunities.
