Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response

NECA and its constituent councils are working with a range of partners across the region, including the North of Tyne Combined Authority and the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP) to support communities and businesses in the region.

Please be advised that due to the current situation regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19), all non-statutory, non-urgent NECA Committee and Panel meetings have been stood down until further notice.  Only statutory, business-critical NECA meetings will take place and these will be conducted virtually where possible.

The North East Combined Authority (NECA) has taken the decision to postpone its Annual Meeting. The decision to postpone the meeting, which was due to be held on 9 June 2020, was taken after new regulations came into force, giving local authorities and combined authorities more flexibility regarding when they hold their meetings, in the current situation. Under the new regulations, which are part of the Coronavirus Act 2020, the requirement to hold an Annual Meeting has been relaxed until 7 May 2021.

NECA will postpone its Annual Meeting until after each of its Constituent Authorities have held their own Annual Meetings. Until then, all existing appointments will remain in place, including the current Chair, Vice Chair and Portfolio Leads.

The Chair of NECA, Cllr Iain Malcolm, has spoken on adapting to the new normal and readying for the recovery, which can be read here.
