An organisation that brings together councils from across the North East is looking for members of the public to join a key committee.

The North East Combined Authority (neca) is appealing for two people to serve as the independent chair and vice chair of its Governance Committee.

The group plays a vital role in the authority’s governance arrangements and ensures a high standard of conduct among its members.

The successful candidates will be experienced in dealing with audit or standards issues. They will also have risk management, performance management and financial governance skills, preferably with a background in a large or public sector organisation.

They must live or work in the neca’s area and have a good knowledge of the locality and its communities.

The combined authority brings together Durham County Council, Gateshead Council, Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council, Northumberland County Council, South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council.

Its Governance Committee is made up of seven councillors from the member authorities and an independent chair and vice chair who are appointed by the Combined Authority from the local community.
