Transport and tourism are among key areas where closer collaboration between the North East and Scotland could be developed.
The issues were discussed at a meeting in Edinburgh yesterday (June 3) between Cllr Simon Henig, chair of the North East Combined Authority, and Fergus Ewing MSP, Scottish Government Minister for business, energy and tourism.
The meeting was arranged to look at how closer working between Scotland and the North East on key issues could help generate mutual economic benefits.
Cllr Henig, who also met with three northern combined authority chairs earlier this week, said: “The meeting in Edinburgh was very positive and we discussed a number of key areas where we felt we could develop a more collaborative approach.
“Issues like transport and tourism are among those where working together could bring additional benefits for businesses and residents in both our area and in Scotland.”
On Monday Cllr Henig met with the chairs of the Merseyside, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire combined authorities to look at how they can work together in order to promote economic growth, improved transport and more effective decision-making through devolved powers.
